Eschatology: Event No 17 The Pouring out of the Seven Bowls of the Last Judgements.

Revelation  chapters 15-16

What do these Seven last Plagues Represent? and When do these events occur in History?
The Seven Angels with the Seven last Plagues
Rev 15:1  Then I saw another marvel (sign) in Heaven, great and wonderful--there were seven angels bringing seven plagues. These are the last plagues, because in them God's anger has found full expression. WNT
Rev 15:1 After this, I looked at the sky and saw something else that was strange and important. Seven angels were bringing the last seven terrible troubles. When these are ended, God will no longer be angry. CEV.

There are the Historicists who say that these were poured out on the Papacy in the past with the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars and will conclude in the future. Others say that these plagues were poured out on Jerusalem and the Jews. They seem to think that these verses refer to God’s judgments on Pagan Rome.

Most reliable interpreters see:
  1. These Bowls or Vials represent future, global Judgments that in their devastating effect are unparalleled in History.
  2. These occur at the very end of the Tribulation Period (of Seven years) culminating in the World War III or the Battle of Armageddon
  3. This war is the last Battle to be fought by mankind, and it will end with the Personal Appearing of Our Lord Jesus Christ as He comes to establish His Millennial Kingdom on Earth. Revelation; Four Views by Steve Gregg

Rev 15:1  Then I saw another marvel in Heaven, great and wonderful--there were seven angels bringing seven plagues. These are the last plagues, because in them God's anger has found full expression.
RWP “Seven angels (aggelous hepta). Accusative case in apposition with sēmeion after eidon. Cf. Rev_8:2.
Which are the last (tas eschatas). “Seven plagues the last.” As in Rev_21:9, “the final cycle of such visitations” (Swete).
Is finished (etelesthē). Proleptic prophetic first aorist passive indicative of teleō as in Rev_10:7. The number seven seems particularly appropriate here for finality and completeness.

Rev 15:2 And I saw what seemed to be a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who had gained the victory over the Wild Beast and over his statue and the number of his name, standing by the sea of glass and having harps which belonged to God. Rev 15:3 And they were singing the song of Moses, God's servant, and the song of the Lamb.

Those who had victory over the Beast, His Statue and the Number of his name v.2 [These are the Tribulation saints]

Rev 15:3  And they were singing the song of Moses, God's servant, and the song of the Lamb.
Their words were, "Great and wonderful are Thy works, O Lord God, the Ruler of all. Righteous and true are Thy ways, O King of the nations.
Rev 15:4  Who shall not be afraid, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? For Thou alone art holy. All nations shall come and shall worship Thee, because the righteousness of all that Thou hast done has been made manifest." WNT

  1. They sing the song of Moses - That which Moses sang, Exo_15:1, when he and the Israelites, by the miraculous power of God, had got safely through the Red Sea, and saw their enemies all destroyed.
  2. And the song of the Lamb - The same song adapted to the state of the suffering, but now delivered Christians.
  3. Great and marvellous are thy works - God’s works are descriptive of His infinite power and wisdom.

Righteous and true are Thy ways, O King of the nations.WNT
(Just and true are Your ways, O King of saints.) MKJV

Every step God takes in grace or providence is according to justice, and He carefully accomplishes all His threatenings and all His promises; to this He is bound by His truth.A.Clark

God is always a God of Truth
"Because he who is blessed in the earth Will be blessed by the God of truth; And he who swears in the earth Will swear by the God of truth; Because the former troubles are forgotten, And because they are hidden from My sight! Isaiah 65:16

God cannot lie; His loving and holy perspective is always true. Jesus lived out that truth and perspective not only as an example for us to follow, but so that we might know the truth deep in our being. An essential key to our wholeness and freedom is receiving God’s truth and applying it to the beliefs that guide our lives.”

King of saints MKJV Differing renderings King of the Ages NIV King of the nations WNT
nations ethnos Grk. eth'-nos
Probably from G1486; a race (as of the same habit), that is, a tribe; specifically a foreign (non-Jewish) one (usually by implication pagan): - Gentile, heathen, nation, people.

Rev 15:4  Who shall not be afraid, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? For Thou alone art holy. All nations shall come and shall worship Thee, because the righteousness of all that Thou hast done has been made manifest." WNT
Who shall not be afraid, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? For Thou alone art holy.
Who shall not — Greek, “Who is there but must fear Thee?” Compare Moses’ song, Exo_15:14-16, on the fear which God’s judgments strike into the foe.

Exo 15:14  The people shall hear, being afraid. Sorrow shall take hold on the people of Philistia.
Exo 15:15  Then the princes of Edom were terrified. Trembling seized upon the mighty men of Moab. All the people of Canaan shall melt away.
Exo 15:16  Fear and dread shall fall upon them. By the greatness of Your arm they shall be still as a stone, until Your people pass over, O Jehovah; until the people whom You have purchased pass over.

all nations shall come — alluding to Psa_22:27-31; compare Isa_66:23; Jer_16:19. The conversion of all nations, therefore, shall be when Christ shall come, and not till then; and the first moving cause will be Christ’s manifested judgments preparing all hearts for receiving Christ’s mercy.
He shall effect by His presence what we have in vain tried to effect in His absence. The present preaching of the Gospel is gathering out the elect remnant; meanwhile “the mystery of iniquity” is at work, and will at last come to its crisis; then shall judgment descend on the apostates at the harvest-end of this age (Greek, Mat_13:39, Mat_13:40) when the tares shall be cleared out of the earth, which thenceforward becomes Messiah’s kingdom. The confederacy of ‘the apostates against Christ becomes, when overthrown with fearful judgments, the very means in God’s overruling providence of preparing the nations not joined in the Antichristian league to submit themselves to Him.

judgments — Greek, “righteousnesses.”

All nations shall come and shall worship Thee, because the righteousness of all that Thou hast done has been made manifest."
All nations shall Worship Him
worship :proskuneō   Strongs pros-koo-neh'-o
From G4314 and probably a derivative of G2965 (meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand); to fawn or crouch to, that is, (literally or figuratively) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore): - worship.

"Come let us worship and bow down"
Psalm 95:6

Rev 15:5  After this, when the doors of the temple [sanctuary] of the tent of witness in Heaven were opened, I looked;
See the notes as above on Act_7:44, where the same Greek phrase is used as here - rendered there “tabernacle of witness.” The word “temple” here - ναὸς  naos - does not refer to the whole of the building called the “temple,” but to the holy of holies. See the notes on Heb_9:3. This was regarded as the unique dwelling-place of God; and it was this sacred place, usually closed from all access, that now seemed to be opened, implying that the command to execute these purposes came directly from God himself.

Were opened - Were thrown open to the viewer John, so that he was permitted to look, as it were, upon the very dwelling-place of God. From his holy presence now came forth the angels to execute his purposes of judgment on that anti-Christian power which had so long corrupted religion and oppressed the world.

Rev 15:6  and there came out of the sanctuary the seven angels who were bringing the seven plagues. The angels were clad in pure, bright linen, and had girdles of gold across their breasts.

plagues:πληγή plēgē Thayer Definition:
1) a blow, stripe, a wound 2) a public calamity, heavy affliction, plague

Each one entrusted with a single “plague” to be executed upon the earth. The meaning here is, that they were designated or appointed to execute those plagues in judgments. The symbols of their office - the golden vials - were given to them afterward, Rev_15:7.

Rev 15:7  And one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven bowls of gold, full of the anger of God who lives until the Ages of the Ages.

four living creatures gave the seven angelsFrom the explanation given of the design of the representation of the “four beasts,” or living creatures, in the notes on Rev_4:6-7, it would seem that the meaning here is, that the great principles of that divine government would be illustrated in the events which are now to occur. In events that were so closely connected with the honor of God and the triumph of his cause on the earth, there was a propriety in the representation that these living creatures, symbolizing the great principles of divine administration, would be particularly interested.Barnes

seven bowls of gold, full of the anger of God who lives until the Ages of the Ages

Seven bowls of gold. The word used here - φιάλη  phialē - means properly, “a bowl or goblet, having more breadth than depth” (Robinson, Lexicon). Our word vial, though derived from this, means rather a thin long bottle of glass, used particularly by apothecaries and druggists. The word would be better rendered by “bowl” or “goblet,” and probably the representation here was of such bowls as were used in the temple service. See the notes on Rev_5:8. They are called in Rev_16:1, “vials of the wrath of God”; and here they are said to be “full of the wrath of God.” The allusion seems to be to a drinking cup or goblet filled with poison, and given to persons to drink - an allusion drawn from one of the methods of punishment in ancient times.

Golden saucers, but not full of incense as in Rev_5:8, but “full (gemousas for which see Rev_5:8) of the wrath of God who liveth for ever and ever” (tou thumou tou theou tou zōntos eis tous aiōnas tōn aiōnōn). Portents of dreadful events.

Eschatology : No. 16 The Pouring out of the Last Seal Judgment.

Revelation 8,9; 11:15-19.
The Seven Trumpets
This Seal involves the Seven Trumpet Plagues on the earth.
  1. The Sounding of the First trumpet. Rev 8:6  And the seven angels that had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
Rev 8:7  And the first sounded, and there followed hail and fire, mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of the earth was burnt up, and the third part of the trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

b. The Sounding of the Second trumpet. Rev 8:8  And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
Rev 8:9  and there died the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, even they that had life; and the third part of the ships was destroyed.

  1. The Sounding of the Third trumpet.
Rev 8:10  And the third angel sounded, and there fell from heaven a great star, burning as a torch, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of the waters;
Rev 8:11  and the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
A Great Star

  1. d. The Sounding of the Fourth Trumpet.
Rev 8:12  And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; that the third part of them should be darkened, and the day should not shine for the third part of it, and the night in like manner.

The first four Trumpets are evidently separated from the three which follow them, both by the words of Rev_8:13 and by the fact that they refer to things of earth, while in the latter we are brought into contact with the spiritual world. A transition of a similar kind met us at the opening of the fifth Seal in chap. Rev_6:9, and the correspondence, in a book constructed upon so symmetrical a plan as the Apocalypse, is sufficient to show us that the transition is in both cases designed. Popular Commentary of the NT.

  1. The Sounding of the Fifth Trumpet.
Rev 9:1  And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the pit of the abyss.
Rev 9:2  And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
Rev 9:3  And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
Rev 9:4  And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads.
Rev 9:5  And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it striketh a man.
Rev 9:6  And in those days men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it; and they shall desire to die, and death fleeth from them.

  1. The Sounding of the Sixth Trumpet.
Rev 9:13  And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God,
Rev 9:14  one saying to the sixth angel that had one trumpet, Loose the four angels that are bound at the great river Euphrates.

Rev 9:15  And the four angels were loosed, that had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, that they should kill the third part of men.
Rev 9:16  And the number of the armies of the horsemen was twice ten thousand times ten thousand: I heard the number of them.
Rev 9:17  And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates as of fire and of hyacinth and of brimstone: and the heads of lions; and out of their mouths proceedeth fire and smoke and brimstone.
Rev 9:18  By these three plagues was the third part of men killed, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, which proceeded out of their mouths.
Rev 9:19  For the power of the horses is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails are like unto serpents, and have heads; and with them they hurt.
Rev 9:20  And the rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk:
Rev 9:21  and they repented not of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

  1. The Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet.
Rev 11:14  The second Woe is past: behold, the third Woe cometh quickly.
Rev 11:15  And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said, The kingdom of the world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Rev 11:16  And the four and twenty elders, who sit before God on their thrones, fell upon their faces and worshipped God,

Rev 11:17  saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast; because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign.
Rev 11:18  And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and the time to give their reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.
Rev 11:19  And there was opened the temple of God that is in heaven; and there was seen in his temple the ark of his covenant; and there followed lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Eschatology : Events of the Tribulation No.15.

The Worldwide Persecution of Israel.
Question: "What is the time of Jacob’s trouble?"

Answer: The phrase "the time of Jacob's trouble" is a quote from Jeremiah 30:7 which says, "Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it" (KJV).

In the previous verses of Jeremiah 30, we find that the Lord is speaking to Jeremiah the prophet about Judah and Israel (30:3-4). In verse 3, the Lord promises that one day in the future, He will bring both Judah and Israel back to the land that He had promised their forefathers. Verse 5 describes a time of great fear and trembling. Verse 6 describes this time in a way that pictures men going through the pains of childbirth, again indicating a time of agony. But there is hope for Judah and Israel, for though this is called "the time of Jacob's distress" (NASB), the Lord promises He will save Jacob (referring to Judah and Israel) out of this time of great trouble (verse 7).

The Time of Jacob's Trouble

In Jeremiah 30:10-11 the Lord says, “‘I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security, and no one will make him afraid. I am with you and will save you,’ declares the LORD.”

Also, the Lord says He will destroy the nations who held Judah and Israel in captivity, and He will never allow Jacob to be completely destroyed. However, it should be noted that the Lord describes this as a time of discipline for His people. He says of Jacob, “Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.

The Old Testament presents at least five purposes for the Tribulation. 1 . The Tribulation will complete the decreed period of national Israel’s judicial hardening as punishment for its rejection of the messianic program, which the partial return from exile did not remove and which culminated in the national rejection of Jesus (Isa. Isa. 6:9-13; Isa. 24:1-6; cf. John John 12:37-41; Rom. Rom. 11:7-10).

2 . It will produce a messianic revival among Jewish people scattered throughout the world (Deu. Deu. 4:27-30; cf. Rev. Rev. 7:1-4+; Mtt. Mat. 24:14).

3 . The Tribulation will convince the Jewish nation of their need for the Messiah in order to produce a national regeneration (Dan.Dan. 12:5-7; Jer. Jer. 31:31-34; Eze. Eze. 20:34-38; Eze. 36:25-27; Eze. 37:1-14; Zec. Zec. 12:9-Zec. 13:2; Isa. Isa. 59:20-21). This will result in a massive return of Jews to the land of Israel (Zec.Zec. 8:7-8; Eze. Eze. 36:24; Eze. 37:21).

4 . It will end the time of the Gentiles and effect the deliverance of the Jewish people from Gentile dominion (Isa. Isa. 24:21-23; Isa. 59:16-20; cf. Mtt.Mat. 24:29-31; Mark Mark 13:24-27; Rom. Rom. 11:25).

5 . The Tribulation will purge the earth of wicked people in order to establish the Messianic Kingdom in righteousness (Isa. Isa. 13:9; Isa. 24:19-20; Eze. Eze. 37:23; Zec. Zec. 13:2; Zec. 14:9; Isa. Isa. 11:9). This violent reduction of the world’s unbelieving population will result from the divine judgments unleashed throughout the Tribulation (Rev. Rev. 6:1+-Rev. 18:1+), climaxing with the Battle of Armageddon under King Messiah (Rev. Rev. 19:1+) and His purge of rebel Jews and oppressive Gentiles at the end of the Tribulation (Eze. Eze. 20:33-38; Mtt. Mat. 25:31-46).15 <http://www.biblestudytools.com/commentaries/revelation>

Dan 12:1  And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

JFB says on v.1.“Compare Dan_12:4, Dan_12:13; as Dan_12:6, Dan_12:7 refer to Dan_7:25, that is, to the time of Antichrist, so the subsequent Dan_12:8-12 treat of the time of Antiochus (compare Dan_12:11 with Dan_11:31), thus putting together in one summary view the two great periods of distress. The political resurrection of the Jews under the Maccabees is the starting-point of transition to the literal resurrection about to follow the destruction of Antichrist by Christ’s coming in glory. The language passes here from the nearer to the more remote event, to which alone it is fully applicable.

at that time — typically, towards the close of Antiochus’ reign; antitypically, the time when Antichrist is to be destroyed at Christ’s coming.
Michael — the guardian angel of Israel (“thy people”), (Dan_10:13). The transactions on earth affecting God’s people have their correspondences in heaven, in the conflict between good and bad angels; so at the last great contest on earth which shall decide the ascendency of Christianity (Rev_12:7-10). An archangel, not the Lord Jesus; for he is distinguished from “the Lord” in Jud_1:9.
there shall be — rather, “it shall be.”

time of trouble, such as never was partially applicable to the time of Antiochus, who was the first subverter of the Jews’ religion, and persecutor of its professors, which no other world power had done. Fully applicable to the last times of Antichrist, and his persecutions of Israel restored to Palestine. Satan will be allowed to exercise an unhindered, unparalleled energy (Isa_26:20, Isa_26:21; Jer_30:7; Mat_24:21; compare Dan_8:24, Dan_8:25; Dan_11:36).

thy people shall be delivered — (Rom_11:26). The same deliverance of Israel as in Zec_13:8, Zec_13:9, “the third part ... brought through the fire ... refined as silver.” The remnant in Israel spared, as not having joined in the Antichristian blasphemy (Rev_14:9, Rev_14:10); not to be confounded with those who have confessed Christ before His coming, “the remnant according to the election of grace” (Rom_11:5), part of the Church of the first-born who will share His millennial reign in glorified bodies; the spared remnant (Isa_10:21) will only know the Lord Jesus when they see Him, and when the spirit of grace and supplication is poured out on them [Tregelles].
written in the book — namely, of God’s secret purpose, as destined for deliverance (Psa_56:8; Psa_69:28; Luk_10:20; Rev_20:15; Rev_21:27). Metaphor from a muster-roll of citizens (Neh_7:5).

Jesus Himself Predicted

Mat 24:15  When therefore ye see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him that readeth understand),
Mat 24:16  then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains:
Mat 24:17  let him that is on the housetop not go down to take out things that are in his house:
Mat 24:18  and let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloak.
Mat 24:19  But woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!
Mat 24:20  And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on a sabbath:
Mat 24:21  for then shall be great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever shall be.
Mat 24:22  And except those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

The Seven Year Tribulation and the second half of GREAT TRIBULATION

v.21 For then shall be great tribulation - No history can furnish us with a parallel to the calamities and miseries of the Jews: - rapine, murder, famine, and pestilence within: fire and sword, and all the horrors of war, without. Our Lord wept at the foresight of these calamities; and it is almost impossible for any humane person to read the relation of them in Josephus without weeping also. St. Luke, Luk_21:22, calls these the days of vengeance, that all things which were written might be fulfilled.
1. These were the days in which all the calamities predicted by Moses, Joel, Daniel, and other prophets, as well as those predicted by our Savior, met in one common center, and were fulfilled in the most terrible manner on that generation.
2. These were the days of vengeance in another sense, as if God’s judgments had certain periods and revolutions; for it is remarkable that the temple was burned by the Romans in the same month, and on the same day of the month, on which it had been burned by the Babylonians. See Josephus, War, b. vi. c. 4.Adam Clark

Bomb Attacks in Aleppo

Rev 12:13  And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth, he persecuted the woman that brought forth the man child.
Rev 12:14  And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
Rev 12:15  And the serpent cast out of his mouth after the woman water as a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream.
Rev 12:16  And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
Rev 12:17  And the dragon waxed wroth with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, that keep the commandments of God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:

What will happen to the Jews during the Time of Jacob’s trouble?

Jews in Riga Ghetto  WW2
They will travel down one of three Roads.
  1. Many Israelites will be slaughtered by the AntiChrist. The Prophet Zecharia says
Zec 13:7  Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.
Zec 13:8  And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith Jehovah, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
Zec 13:9  And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

  1. Some Israelites will follow the Antichrist.
Mat 24:10  And then shall many stumble, and shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another.
Mat 24:11  And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray.
Mat 24:12  And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold.

Rev 2:9  I know thy tribulation, and thy poverty (but thou art rich), and the blasphemy of them that say they are Jews, and they art not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

Rev 3:9  Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

  1. A Remnant will be saved.
Rev 12:14  And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Zec 13:9  And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

From these Scriptures it appears that one Third of Israel will remain true to God and be allowed to escape into a special Hiding Place. While it is not specified in Scripture many believe that it will be in the area of Petra. This is based on the following:

The massive stone walls which completely encircle the city of Petra make it nearly impossible to get at anyone who would be hiding inside.

Zec 14:3  Then shall Jehovah go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
Zec 14:4  And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east; and the mount of Olives shall be cleft in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
Zec 14:5  And ye shall flee by the valley of my mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azel; yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah; and Jehovah my God shall come, and all the holy ones with thee.

Isa 63:1  Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
The first few Verses of Isaiah 63 deal with the Second Coming of Messiah.
He comes to Edom of which Petra was the Capital, and to Bozrah (a city of Edom). Many believe He comes to rescue the Hebrews who are hiding there.

Dan 11:41  He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and …………..

Thus Edom will be delivered out of the hand of the Antichrist. It is assumed that it is there that the Remnant of Israel will be protected.
