Eschatology : Events of the Tribulation The Gog and Magog Invasion of Israel (cont.) 9

  1. The Gog and Magog Invasion of Israel

The Seven Year Tribulation will be broken in two / three-and-a-half year periods.
Ezekiel 38-39 speak of this catastrophic invasion.
Eze 38:1  And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying,
Eze 38:2  Son of man, set your face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief ruler of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him.
Eze 38:3  And say, So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the chief ruler of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal.

  1. Who are the Invaders from Gog and the Land of Magog?

Gog is a person. Whoever Gog is, he is from the land of Magog and is the leader of Tubal and Meshek (some translations add “Rosh” to the list) and a confederacy of other nations: Persia, Cush, Put, Gomer, and Beth Togarmah (Ezekiel 38:5–6). And, whoever he is, he will have plans to “attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people,” viz., Israel (verses 11, 14, and 18). But, regardless of Gog’s plans, the Lord God is against him and will defeat him soundly (Ezekiel 38:4, 19–23; 39:3–5).

Magog is a land “in the far north,” from Israel’s point of view (Ezekiel 38:15; 39:2). Most Bible commentators interpret “Magog” as Russia—and, indeed, Russia is straight north of Israel, all the way up to the Arctic Circle. According to this view, “Rosh” is a reference to Russia, “Meshek” is either Moscow or the people north of the Black Sea (the area of southern Russia and Ukraine), and “Tubal,” which is always listed with Meshek in Scripture, is identified as a city in Siberia or an area in central Turkey.

Others see “Magog” as a general term used in Ezekiel’s day to identify barbarians living near the Black and Caspian Seas. Regardless of the exact locations of Magog, Tubal, and Meshek, there is no doubt that the general area includes portions of Russia and the former Soviet Union, and possibly some Arab countries.

So, yes, the Bible does mention Russia, although not by that name, in connection with the end times. Ezekiel 38—39 definitely refer to a nation coming from northern Asia to attack Israel. <gotquestions.org>

  1. Who are the Allies in this Invasion?

Ezekiel lists the nations who will join the Gog and Magog Invasion. Persia, Libya,Gomar, and Togarmah. These could refer to the Modern day Nations of:
Persia - Iran
Ethiopia - Sudan and Ethiopia and Somalia
Libya - Arabic African Nations of N. Africa
Gomer - Eastern Europe
Togarmah Turkey and S. Russian peoples

  1. What is the Reason for the Invasion.?

  1. To cash in on the riches of Israel.
Eze 38:11  And you shall say, I will go up to the land of open spaces. I will go to those at ease, who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and there are no bars nor gates to them,
Eze 38:12  in order to take a spoil, and to steal a prize; to turn your hand on the inhabited waste places, and on the people gathered out of the nations, who have gotten cattle and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.
  1. To control the Middle East. Israel is the centre of the Three great Continents which join at the Land Bridge
  2. To take captives and destroy Israel.

  1. How is Gog and Magog defeated on the Mountains of israel?

This smashing defeat is caused by the following events:
  1. A mighty Earthquake. Eze 38:18  And it shall be on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel, says the Lord Jehovah, My fury shall come up in My face.
Eze 38:19  For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great quaking in the land of Israel,
Eze 38:20  so that the fish of the sea, and the birds of the heavens, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all the men on the face of the earth, shall quake at My presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

  1. Mutiny among the troops
Eze 38:21  And I will call for a sword against him on all My mountains, says the Lord Jehovah. Each man's sword shall be against his brother.

Fire and Brimstine

  1. A Plague among the troops
Eze 38:22  And I will judge him with a plague and with blood (perhaps Ebola? or Radiation?)
  1. Floods, hailstones, fire and brimstone
Eze 38:22  And I will judge him with a plague and with blood. And I will rain on him, and on his bands, and on the many peoples with him, an overflowing shower, and great hailstones, fire and brimstone.
Eze 39:4  You shall fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your bands, and the people with you. I will give you for food to the birds of prey of every kind, and to the beasts of the field.
Eze 39:5  You shall fall on the face of the field, for I have spoken, says the Lord Jehovah.
Eze 39:6  And I will send a fire on Magog, and on the secure inhabitants of the coasts. And they shall know that I am Jehovah.
